Last updated: July 28, 2026
Focus Coach is a Chrome extension that helps you balance learning and distraction time. This policy explains what the extension stores, what it does on your device, and what it does not do with your information.
Summary
- Your browsing stats and settings stay on your device in Chrome local storage during normal use.
- We do not operate servers that receive your browsing activity.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking in the extension.
- We do not sell your data.
- If you choose to send feedback, that submission goes to a third-party form provider (see Optional feedback below).
What we store locally
To provide credits, stats, and coaching features, the extension saves information in
chrome.storage.local on your browser, including:
- Learning and distraction time (by site/domain) for today and recent daily history
- Credit balance, earn/spend totals, and your settings (distraction mode, free hours, ratio, custom learning and distraction sites)
- Focus session progress and weekly report aggregates
- Recently visited learning pages (URL, title, and thumbnail when available)
What runs on supported sites
The extension only injects scripts on learning and distraction domains listed in its configuration (for example YouTube, Khan Academy, Reddit, and similar sites). On those pages it may:
- Measure active time on the tab to update credits and stats
- Apply blocking, grayscale, redirect, or check-in prompts when credits run out
- Show a small learning-time status indicator on learning sites
It does not read or modify pages on domains outside its configured lists, except for the extension’s own new tab page, popup, and side panel.
What we do not collect
- No account registration or login required to use the extension
- No cloud backup or sync provided by us
- No transmission of your stats or settings to our servers during normal use
- No analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs in the extension
The extension may load its own bundled files (such as its site list) from the extension package. That is not sending your personal data anywhere.
Optional feedback
Focus Coach may include a Send feedback link that opens an external form hosted by a third-party provider (currently Tally). Submitting feedback is optional and not required to use the extension.
If you submit the form:
- The form provider processes what you choose to enter (for example comments and an optional email address), under that provider’s own terms and privacy policy.
- We may read those submissions to improve Focus Coach and, if you opt in, to email you when Pro launches.
- We do not guarantee a reply to individual messages. Email is used only for the purposes described on the form (such as a Pro launch notice if you opt in).
- Your browsing stats and settings are not attached to the form unless you type them in yourself.
Permissions
Focus Coach requests Chrome permissions needed for its features:
- storage — save your settings and stats locally
- tabs — detect which supported site is active and track time there
- alarms — roll daily stats over at midnight and run periodic checks
- scripting — inject coaching UI on supported sites when needed
- sidePanel — show the extension side panel
Host permissions are limited to configured learning and distraction domains so the extension can run only where it is designed to work. A Lemon Squeezy API host permission is reserved for optional Pro license validation when that commerce feature is enabled; browsing stats are not sent to Lemon Squeezy.
Retention and deletion
Local extension data remains on your device until you remove it. You can use Reset on the new tab dashboard to clear current stats. Uninstalling the extension removes its stored data from Chrome. Daily history is kept for about five weeks to power weekly reports, then older days are dropped automatically.
Feedback submissions are retained by the form provider (and by us if we export them) for as long as needed to review feedback or honor a Pro launch notice you opted into. You can ask us to delete a submission that includes your email by contacting us through the feedback form.
Children
Focus Coach is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
